We bought this player 3 years ago for a trip to Hawaii, and it has become indispensable. The picture is clear, the sound is good, the hook-ups are easy to use if you want to use it with another device, and most of all -- it is incredibly durable. My kids have dropped it, gotten food and sand into it, and carted it with them on nearly every trip our family has made--and it still works well! There are not many electronic devices that you can give to a four year old to use without worrying about its survival, but this has proved to be one of them. After years of continuous use, we are replacing it because the screen support finally gave out and it has to be propped open, but even so the player still works. The carrying case is very handy and has plenty of room. The DVDs do sometimes make a grinding noise when loading, but it doesn't affect the operation of the player. Very good product!

Excellent prtable DVD player with two audio outputs July 13, 2009

When looking for a portable DVD player with more than two kids, I soon realized that many units only have one audio output. This has two which is great. We used an audio splitter to get all three kids in the audio action.

br /As for the unit itself, the picture is clear and the large screen is nice especially since you can extend the screen to give lots of room to see and/or change discs. We had no problem playing DVDs whether they came from the store or where made from using Roxio Toast (Mac The Ripper and Handbrake are very useful for backing up DVDs).

br /I read that people talked about a grinding noise but if you ever listen to your own home DVD player, you will realize that the DVD actually spins at a high rate and that the laser has to adjust to the DVD to read it. The noise is normal and once the movie starts, there is no noise. Plus the kids used this on a plane ride or car ride with headphones so who cares. The built in speakers actually work very nicely as well.

br /For the money, it is a nice unit. Seeing some units listing for over $200, I would get this every time. To get over 4 hours of play time for one charge was also nice. Great for plane rides and car trips.

br /NOTE: I recommend the Targus brand for a case that converts to a DVD holder for the car. We have one that is an older model that goes between the two front seats and works great and allows for storage of DVDs and other electrical parts (similar to the Targus DVD401 9 Vehicle Portable DVD Travel Case). Amazon also has the Targus DVDBP01 9 Portable DVD Player Travel Backpack which has high ratings.

This is an awesome purchase for anyone who travels and doesn't own a laptop computer. I love the device and will not travel without it.

We bought this player to entertain our 2-year-old on long car rides. It has been a life saver and worked very well. The only problem we've had is finding a suitable place to attach it in our car that's viewable by her but out of her reach. We've used it a lot around the house as well and it's been wonderful. Love it!

I had read all the reviews on this item from three different sources and decided to purchase it anyway, ignoring many of the warnings people had voiced about defective players. I purchased this item and had it less than four days before it stopped working. During that time it was stored safely in a bubble protector and inside the case that came with it. It experienced no bumps or jolts and was very well protected. Now it can't even load the title screen, but makes a very loud knocking noise and freezes. The defective item is currently being returned and I'm seeking a refund. Please wish me luck!
